Belonging questions by Sophia Shuvalova

This is a collage but also a painting, the main features of the image are placed on top of what was my pallet for one of my previous paintings. It is a self-portrait and mainly it deals with the issues of cultural identity and belonging using myself as a kind of a gateway toward exploring those themes, as well as a valid example in its own right. The use of the pallet as background is perhaps the most striking and important part of the image because it serves to translate the emotional side of belonging, the rawness of of its essence.
