Failure of communication

Failure of communication by Sophia Shuvalova

In many ways the title of this painting describes it so well that there seams to be no need to take this any further. However, there are less obvious things that could stand out in the image. It is about the passing of time, the sense of leaving the past behind as much as it is about being a straight forward metaphor for the failure of communication. Furthermore, this is also a symbol for human inherent desire to communicate to the world and to be heard and the complications that still, even in the age of the internet, stand on the way of achieving that. So close and yet so far away, the telephone tempts and teases the viewer, but there is always a way to get to it if you go around it, through the outside of the canvas. Oil on canvas.
